painting, with Joanna.

Bristol Borough Mural Project #2

At the end of day 4 we are ahead of schedule. Day 3 we had 38 painters signed in,and kept our interns very busy just to keep up with the paint mixing.
The mural is tobe installed on this building and this is a photo of the Mural.

The Bristol Borough Mural Project -
After months of meetings and the final approval for the Mural,the first meeting of Painting in the Park,was a big success,7/13/2009. The three interns for the project,transferred the image to the material,which is like parachute fabric,then prepped with a coat of gesso. Then about 18 brushes went to it,with lots of fun.
I arrived,about 40min.late. I was surprised to see many friends, some were from my very first art group that I painted with. It is refreshing to see Old Friends and to make new ones. There is not a thing better than painting as a group for good fellowship and community spirit.
A big thumbs up to Bristol Borough and all that are helping on this project.

I took a vacation to Playa Del Carmen, Mexico..stayed at the Riu Tequila. This was a return visit. I had painted the building we stayed,in 2006 [See#67,RIU]. This time I painted with the Island theme. #93,Beach boat, #100,Into the Sun. There are so many ways to paint Palm Trees,that I will be doing many more Palm Tree studies in the future. There is something that draws me to into the depths of Ocean Water,Palm Trees and Sky. This all may come about because once you take a photo,or paint the Scene, Mother Nature will not repeat the artistry of her work.

#99 Barnegat Light 2

History of the Barnegat Lighthouse:
This is a watercolor 9"x20". tried to capture the reflective haze off the backside of the cylinder,which is present so many times as you go through the inlet.
Construction of Barnegat Lighthouse at the north end of Long Beach Island,NJ., began in late 1856. The new tower would be four times as tall as the previous and cost about $40,000. It was built about 100 feet south of the original because erosion in the inlet remained a problem. The current lighthouse is really two towers in one. The exterior conical tower covers a cylindrical tower on the inside.
Barnegat Light, the second tallest lighthouse in the United States, was commissioned January 1, 1859. The tower light was 165 feet above sea level. It remained a first-class navigational light until August 1927, when the "Barnegat Lightship" was anchored 8 miles off the coast. The lightship was removed in 1965, made obsolete by electronic navigation.
The tower's light was reduced over 80 per cent, but it was not extinguished until January 1944.
In 1988, the lighthouse was closed for repair; re-opening for visitors in 1991, Although its light no longer functions, the tower is flood-lit at night and continues to attract thousands of visitors every summer.

President Lincoln's connection with Artist Wm.Nuttale 1948

This blog post is most fitting for Presidents Day - President Lincoln's 200th Birthday.

Wm.Nuttale was a sign painter for a truck delivery co. That I started to work for in 1948, I was a young 12yrs.old with a love to be around Trucks. That was the start of a 60year trip. [That is another story].

I would watch Mr. Nuttale letter the doors of the trucks, gold leaf and stripe the trucks to the finish. While all the time his brush would shake from his age of experience, till the first hairs of that brush hit the steel and produce a most beautiful letter. All the time the brush was going the stories kept flowing.

One story was with his dream to do artwork of a man he held close to his heart, President Lincoln, such as our current President Obama has for Lincoln. Well he did for fill his dream. #1 was a commission of Lincoln walking made from the 48 states. #2 was a Portrait of Lincoln made from the Gettysburg Address. Although I don't know the year they were completed I was 13yrs.when my father took me to visit Mr.Nuttale's home. He gave a young Artbrush 2 pictures and made some sketches for me. The drawings I am unable to find at this point, I hope will be a latter post.

All these years I have not unlocked this childhood memory, until this President Lincoln's Birthday that provided that Key.

I hope you enjoyed this story as much as I relived it by telling it.

One must remember that telling a story to a young child may be just a meaningless story, but in the future may develop that child's memories.
